There You Are: Teresa

THERE YOU ARE: Teresa

Teresa Bracamonte is an artist from Lima, Peru. Her work explores themes such as femininity and identity. Like many expats, her experience living in Paris is complex. Full of exhilarating highs, disappointing lows, always permeated by the question whether this could ever really be home. But it’s also in Paris where Teresa came into her own as an artist.

I was inspired by the photographs of Georgia O’Keefe against her artwork as shot by Alfred Stieglitz, as well as Teresa’s strong take on the female gaze. We shot these in her atelier, where she is the king of her castle.

My series There You Are started off as an exploration of how we go about looking for something within and outside ourselves when we move to another country. The Teresa photos of There You Are explore what happens when you’ve found something.
